Owanbe Party Crashers (Mo-gbo-mo-yas)

The thought of owanbe party crashers, the mo-gbo-mo-yas can be paralyzing because the eventual guests will always exceed the invited guests. Hosting an owanbe party can be tasking. A lot of effort goes into it for one to be successful.  You have to ensure that all your guests are well taken care of. You have to provide souvenirs, food, drinks and other item 7 for each and every one of them.

But at the end of the party, you will discover that most of these items you provided were not enough for your invited guests. They’ve been consumed by uninvited guests popularly known as mo-gbo-mo-yas (party crashers).

Party crashers also known as ‘mo-gbo-mo-ya’ are those uninvited guests who attend your owanbe party. They just heard that there is an owanbe party holding somewhere and they grace the event without any invitation. Or they heard their friend is attending an owanbe party and decided to come along.

Either way, mo-gbo-mo-yas are common features of any Nigerian owanbe party. The eventual guests will always exceed the invited guests. As much as they can’t be avoided due to the difficulty of identifying them; there are subtle ways to identify them.

6 Subtle Ways to Identify Owanbe Party Crashers (Mo-gbo-Mo-yas)

Permit us to open your eyes to 6 subtle ways of identifying these party crashers (mo-gbo-mo-yas). They are subtle because they are only obvious to those carefully observing.

Enjoy!

  • They are not always on uniform (Aso-ebi)

One subtle way to identify these party crashers is that they are not always on the ‘Aso-ebi’. Yes, most of the time, mo-gbo-mo-yas are not on the family uniform chosen for the owanbe party. Since they are unknown to the celebrants, they don’t get to participate. And you know that aso-ebis are a common feature of typical owanbe parties in Nigeria. So whenever you see anyone without an aso-ebi, they are the mo-gbo-mo-yas.

  • They come in groups

These party crashers don’t work or come alone. They come in groups. The reason is simple, so they can look like important guests on a table and also because of the company of their friends who they accompanied there. So whenever you see a group of guests coming, just be on the lookout, they could be the mo-gbo-mo-yas.

  • They don’t have an IV

This is another subtle way to identify an owanbe party crasher. Not only are these mo-gbo-mo-yas not on uniform (aso-ebi)or come in groups, they also don’t have IVs. They just heard that there is an owanbe party holding somewhere and they invited themselves without any IV. So if you are trying to limit the numbers of mo-gbo-mo-yas (party crashers), make them show IVs at the party entrance.

  • They struggle for food/souvenirs

Now, this is another subtle way to identify owanbe party crashers – the mo-gbo-mo-yas. Since they always come in groups, they always struggle for food and souvenirs. Naturally, besides the fun, food, drinks and souvenirs are the enticing benefits for mo-gbo-mo-yas. This is why they gate crash owanbe parties. To partake in the merry and be filled and hopefully take something home!

  • They don’t stand up to spray the celebrant

Here is another subtle way to identify these mo-gbo-mo-yas at your owanbe party; they don’t and will never stand up to spray the celebrant. In fact, how can they? They don’t even know the celebrant in the first place. So how can they spray him/her? All they are interested in is to come and enjoy themselves and if possible, go home with takeaways!

  • They come with no gift for the celebrant

When they didn’t even stand up to spray the celebrant, how can they come with gift for the celebrant? This is another subtle way to identify them. Because they don’t always come with gifts. Rather, they struggle for the ones (souvenirs) that are meant for the invited guests.
