Lucy.ng 2020 CSR initiative was geared towards uplifting the underprivileged children of our society. We carefully thought about a way to do this as a new term of school just began and we came up with our Back-to-school outreach program.
The Back-to-school program was carried out at a school that was specifically chosen because it had a large population of students that fell into our category of interest. We put together a package containing a water bottle, notebooks and a lunch bag which we handed out to each student. This event took place on the 23rd day of January 2020.
As we arrived at the school, the students were ushered into the hall where they were addressed first by their Principal and then by our CEO, Jumoke Lawoyin. She spoke to them about the importance of education and how they should be focused on their studies and believe in themselves so they can achieve anything they step their mind too. She also stressed the importance of learning different skills that will help them in the future. Our ‘shecodes’ program which is an initiative that sponsors gifted young girls to a coding school was also mentioned and scholarships to the coding school were also promised to the most deserving students.
A very important aspect of a brand is its impact on its society which can be seen in its Corporate Social Responsibility execution. School children are an integral part of our society who should be given priority and can be reached through CSR as we have done here at lucy.ng and intend to continue to do in the future.
