At any wedding ceremony, there are 3 critical people that need to be around for the wedding to take place. These are the bride, the groom and the pastor. If one of these 3 people is missing at a wedding, a lot of reactions can ensue.
In this post, we want to highlight the things that happen when a groom is late for a wedding, enjoy!

The Bride Goes Gaga!
The bride is the first person to feel the lateness of the groom at the wedding and when that happens, she starts going gaga! Who would blame her? After all, the wedding day is one of the most important days in a woman’s life. And when the groom is late, all manner of negative thoughts will start running through her mind. The result is pure madness!

The Bride’s Parents are ‘Scabashing’ (speaking in tongues)
Like the bride, her parents are usually the next joyous people at a wedding. Their little princess has finally found her prince charming. But when the prince charming refuses to show up on time at the wedding, all kinds of ‘scabashing’ (speaking in tongues) will ensue. No one who would wish to be the parents of an abandoned bride!

The Guests Start Murmuring in Chinese
The guests too are not left out of the paranoia that follows when a groom is late to the wedding. So rather than scabashing (speaking in tongues) like the bride’s parents or going gaga like the bride; they choose a more subtle response. They start murmuring in Chinese…trying to fathom the cause of the groom’s lateness or absence!

The Groom’s Parents Are Yelling Over the Phone
And trust the groom’s parents; they are the most aggressive in such situations. Their response is more confrontational. They channel their anger and embarrassment to the right channel, their son. Since they can’t physically be there with him, they turn to their phones and start yelling all kinds of venom on the late groom. This reaction is perfectly normal, the disgrace and embarrassment is felt most by them!

The Wedding Planner is on the Calculator
Most wedding planners are rarely fully paid till after the wedding, after all, you would want to evaluate the outcome of the event. So you can understand their reaction when the groom is late for the wedding, they pick up their calculators to calculate their balance. Would you blame them? The lateness of the groom is a potential threat to their balance being paid, so they’ve got to be proactive.

The Choir Never Stops Singing
At church weddings, the choir is responsible for entertainment, but when the groom is not forthcoming, the entertainment never ends. In a bid to get people’s attention off the late groom, the choir keeps on singing longer than they usually would. This is also usually done to prevent the presiding pastor from going ahead with the wedding sermon.

The Pastor Begins the Wedding Sermon
And when the choir finally runs out of songs, the presiding pastor has no choice but to commence the wedding sermon without the groom. Imagine the bride seated all by herself listening to the message meant for she and her husband… talk about awkwardness!

The Groom’s Ex-girlfriend is Smiling
Uninvited, the ex-girlfriends of the groom always find a way to the wedding venue, somehow out of curiosity or because they expect something weird to happen. And when the groom is suddenly late for the wedding, their joy is unlimited. You will know she is an ex-girlfriend if she is the only one smiling in the church when the groom is still absent!

The Groom’s Men Go into Hiding
Imagine being a groom’s man in a wedding where the groom is late…talk about double wahala. Groom’s men are usually close friends to the groom and when the groom can’t be found, they are up for serious questions. You will not only have to answer questions you know nothing about, you will be pulled from every possible corner by the bride, her parents, groom’s parents and virtually everyone. So when the groom is late…smart groom’s men often go into hiding to avoid all these drama!

The Bride Marries Someone Else
Perhaps this is the worst outcome that can happen when a groom is late for the wedding and all efforts to get across to him fails. The bride to avoid being heartbroken on one of the most important days of her life, seeks out an alternative groom and gets married. Just imagine being the lucky guy? Getting married without all the financial commitments…tempting right?
